Ovenden Allworks completed timber repairs to existing groynes under Worthing Borough Council's current maintenance scheme, working for principal contractor VolkerStevin. These repairs involved piling, planking, waling and land ties. Currently along the frontage there are numerous residential & non-residential properties which are at risk of coastal flooding. The purpose of the project was to reduce the flood risk to these properties, deliver environmental enhamcements through the scheme & provide an affordable outcome that can be funded.
The works comprimised more than 2,750 individual repair elements across 70 timber groynes, spanning aproximately 4 km of coastline. To ensure the safe and effecient delivery of the project, the site was was divided into 10 sequential work sections. Activities were undertaken in one section at a time, following a prescribed construction sequence to minimise disruption and maintain programme effeciency.
