WAREHOUSE CONCRETE FOUNDATIONS

Client: Silent Gliss

Ovenden Allworks have recently undertaken the construction of a new 660m2 power-floated concrete slab at the Silent Gliss Factory in Westwood Cross, Margate.

After initially orchestrating the excavation and removal from site of the existing 3000 m3 soil bund we could then commence the excavation and mass concrete pour of twenty footings and the installation of a new type 1 hard standing/ sub-base covering the entire footprint of the building.

The concrete works involved the erection of metal formwork (road forms) to provide the edge of the slab and installation of reinforcement.

To execute the pour of the floor slab we used an innovative drag beam placement technique and concrete pumps. A power floated finish was required, therefore the team remained on site into the early hours to achieve this.

Installation of brush finished concrete slabs and new dropped kerbs to allow access into the buildings

Other related works included the installation of new rain water drainage connections to take the water from the roof. Construction of new pathways to form the fire escapes and pedestrian routes.

The construction of the slab has facilitated the erection of a new steel framed building that has allowed the company to expand its operations and storage capacities.
