Ovenden Allworks undertook the flood defence works on Canal Road in Strood. These works comprised of installing precast concrete coping units and the installation of a double leaf swing floodgate, plus various repairs to the brickwork and steps exposed to the river Medway.

These works required scheduling around the tidal flow of the river, plus extra care was required due to working at heights and next to water, harnesses were used to increase safety.

​Close cooperation with Medway local council was required as the floodgate is positioned across the road, therefore requiring a road closure to allow the installation to take place.
